The largest surface ship building endeavour in the history of our nation has commenced in South Australia.
In 2018 BAE Systems Maritime Australia (previously known as ASC Shipbuilding), was awarded a contract by the Australian Government to design and build nine anti-submarine warfare frigates for the Royal Australian Navy.
Known as the Hunter class, these frigates will be built at the Osborne Naval Shipyard in South Australia, using Australian suppliers from every state and territory.
The Hunter Class Frigate Program will create and sustain more than 5,000 jobs across BAE Systems and the wider Australian defence supply chain over the life of the program, including 1,000 apprentice and graduate roles. We'll need engineers and project managers, specialists in steel work, mechanical, electrical and technical trades and many other professionals.
