Engineering Lead

Passionate people work at BAE Systems Australia and the team contributes to something really big – the Defence of Australia.  The Maritime Sustainment business provides comprehensive through-life-support services for naval and marine ships and systems with sites in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.


As the Engineering Lead, you will provide support to the Engineering Manager under the Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD) Transition Into Service Support Contract (TISSC). You will assist with the implementation and execution of assigned project plans and objectives to improve the availability, maintainability and capability of the vessels.

In more specific terms, you will:
• Liaise and engage with key internal stakeholders
• Establish regular internal forums and develop minutes, assigning accountabilities
• Provide periodic reporting on internal metrics and assist with reviews
• Review  and approve Work Instructions, Problem Identification Reports and Risk Assessments
• Perform Sub System Technical Authority duties
• Assess and report all issues associated with the LHD Systems and assist the project with the interpretation and resolution
• Expedite technical queries, sourcing of technical data and Objective Quality Evidence (OQE) from the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM)
• Ensure all documents and artefacts generated are completed and in accordance with the appropriate standard procedures and instructions including compliance with the change management, safety and quality assurance
• Ensure projects achieve the required performance in terms of schedule, budget and technical requirements
•Contribute to process improvement and undertake additional tasks


As the ideal candidate, you will have:
• Tertiary qualifications and professional development sufficient to obtain a status as a Chartered Professional Engineer
• Significant experience within an engineering discipline, preferably in a defence and/or maritime environment with knowledge of Classification Societies Requirements
• An ability to manage and prioritize your own activities to meet project schedules and to be self-motivated to work effectively without supervision
• Strong written and verbal communication skills along with well - developed interpersonal skills to build effective relationships with other engineers, technical officers and drafts people
• Knowledge in contemporary engineering application software
• Eligible to obtain defence security clearance
