ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
We have an exciting opportunity fo a Test & Commissioning (T&C) Mechanical Technician to join either our Hull & Deck or Power & Propulsion team on a permanent full-time basis. As part of the T&C team, you'll play a key role in conducting Set to Work (STW) activities, testing, commissioning, maintaining and ensuring the operation of the Hunter Class Frigate's mechanical systems.
Depending on your background, you may work with mission-critical Hull & Deck systems (e.g., moorings, anchors, hydraulics, escape systems, cranes, helicopter landing equipment) or the mechanical elements of Power & Propulsion systems (e.g., main engines, gearboxes, shaft lines, steering gear). Based at our Osborne Shipyard in Adelaide, we offer flexible work options, including hybrid arrangements and a 9-day fortnight to help you balance work and life.
Key RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct STW, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of Hull & Deck and/or Power & Propulsion systems.
- Train and qualify as an Authorised Individual to operate and maintain HCF systems.
- Plan, check, and carry out mechanical isolations of ship equipment and systems.
- Complete test, maintenance, and STW documentation using relevant digital tools.
- Work closely with the T&C Lead Technicians to execute the T&C program.
- Share your technical expertise. Support training, drive best practices, and foster continuous improvement.
- Ensure all work meets WHS legislation and BAE Systems SHE policies.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, Operations, and Support Systems teams to deliver safe, effective solutions.
About YOU
- 5–10 years' experience in commissioning and/or maintenance of mechanical systems (Hull & Deck or Power & Propulsion).
- Experience with hydraulic systems and/or mechanical elements of propulsion systems is highly regarded.
- Hands-on experience in testing, commissioning, and verification of systems.
- Hold a minimum Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical, or an equivalent/higher industry-recognised mechanical qualification.
- Strong problem-solving and teamwork skills.
- Skilled in planning and coordination to keep tasks on track.
- Proficient with computer-based commissioning documentation, risk assessments, and work instructions.
- Professional, technically sharp, and capable of working independently.
