About the OPPORTUNITY
We have an exciting opportunity for a Project Engineer to join our JORN line of business based at SA-DSTG, reporting to the Delivery Steam Lead.
We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, such as working a 9-day fortnight.
As the Project Engineer you will be responsible for supporting the successful delivery of projects and tasks within a Delivery Stream or MPAAHS allocation, as part of the broader Rolling Annual Program of Work (RAPW) under the JORN Sustainment Program.
Reporting to a Delivery Stream Project Manager, you will ensure technical, cost, and schedule objectives are met in line with agreed program requirements. You will be assigned specific projects or tasks and work collaboratively with the Engineering Lead and Delivery Stream PM to drive progress and achieve RAPW goals and targets.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead and deliver assigned projects within the Facilities Delivery Stream, ensuring alignment with cost, schedule, quality, and performance targets.
- Oversee all phases of project execution, including early engineering, design, procurement, installation, and close-out, in accordance with organisational policies and procedures.
- Manage project risks, resolve issues, and ensure successful project completion with appropriate documentation and compliance.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and reporting to inform project planning, procurement strategies, and investment submissions (e.g., DMFP, SAR).
- Monitor and report on project progress, ensuring accurate data collection and timely updates to stakeholders and leadership.
- Collaborate with the Technical Support Network (TSN) to coordinate inputs and ensure efficient project delivery.
- Supervise and evaluate performance of contractors, designers, and technical contributors to meet project and organisational objectives.
- Provide technical expertise throughout the project lifecycle, from concept and estimating to system design and delivery.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned projects, managing stakeholder expectations and ensuring clear communication.
- Work closely with other Project Engineers and internal teams to support resource planning and drive team effectiveness.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, champion safety, and contribute to quality assurance activities.
- Maintain compliance with internal governance, procurement processes, and industry standards.
- Support professional development, engineering capability assessments, and workforce planning activities.
About YOU
- Mechanical engineering or technology degree qualified and satisfying the requirements for membership of the Institute of Engineers Australia.
- Experience in Facilities related projects (i.e. HVAC, Security System, Fire System, Water Treatment plant)
- Demonstrated experience within the Mechanical Engineering discipline with working experience in the technical design and development of Mechanical engineering projects.
- The ability to undertake engineering activities within own competence without day to day guidance or supervision, including liaison with customers and suppliers as appropriate.
- Can engage with stakeholders and build highly effective working relationships.
- Demonstrated experience in contributing to team planning, risk management, product safety and quality.
- Has experienced working on Facilities related projects (i.e. HVAC).
- CPEng or working towards.
- Understanding of ISO55001
