About the OPPORTUNITY
We have an exciting opportunity for a Combat Systems Delegated Design Authority to join our Maritime Australia business on the Hunter Class Frigate Program (HCFP). Reporting to the Combat Systems Design Authority, you will be employed on a permanent full time basis and can be situated at either Osborne, Adelaide or Melbourne CBD locations. Other interstate locations will also be considered, and employment on a part time basis at 0.7 or 0.8 Full Time Equivalent (FTE) will also be considered.
We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, including working a 9-day fortnight and hybrid working.
BAE Systems Maritime Australia (formerly known as ASC Shipbuilding), has been contracted to design and deliver the world's most advanced anti-submarine warfare frigates to the Royal Australian Navy. The Hunter Class Frigate Program (HCFP) will create and sustain more than 5,000 jobs across BAE Systems and the wider Australian Defence supply chain over the life of the program.
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide direction, guidance and review to the technical development and delivery teams responsible for the HCFP Combat Systems, and provide recommendations
- Deliver an engineering design that is compliant with laws and regulations, is acceptably safe, has an acceptable environmental impact and meets the customer's needs
- Make engineering decisions and reach engineering compromises that trade off one aspect of performance requirements against another
- Collaborate effectively and build good relationships with the Customer and internal engineering teams, provide engineering guidance and act as the engineering representative in forums
- Ensure the appropriate review and authorisation of engineering outputs for all design components to the extent specified in an Instrument of Appointment
- Ensure compliance and engineering governance of engineering outputs
- Identify and manage engineering risks associated with the system development and system integration, formulating strategies for their resolution
- Drive culture of engineering best practice, efficiency and continuous improvement
About YOU
- Extensive maritime combat systems engineering experience – Relevant experience in other engineering disciplines will also be considered
- Tertiary engineering degree and a Chartered Professional Engineer or eligibility to obtain
- Defence industry experience, and experience in systems engineering integration, testing and design
- The ability to provide engineering technical leadership, good communication and stakeholder management skills
- Previous delegated technical design authority experience will be highly regarded
