About the OPPORTUNITY
We have an exciting opportunity for a Production Support Senior Structural Engineer to join our Hunter Class Program based at Osborne – South Australia, reporting to the Engineering Manager/Lead Engineer.
We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, such as working a 9-day fortnight and hybrid working.
You will be responsible for providing structural engineering services to support Production and resolve Shipbuilding issues. The role also requires a technical interface with the broader engineering team, production, sustainment and procurement personnel and external suppliers. The role may also require a technical interface with the Customer at events such as design reviews. Provides senior leadership and subject matter expertise and management and development of the technical team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Support and coordinate production queries and respond to them in a timely manner after conducting necessary structural assessments
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to structural engineering activities and occasionally lead a team of structural engineering staff as required
- Provide an interface between project team and management and customer representatives
- Manage structural tasks of assigned projects in accordance with budget, schedule and priority
- Interpret technical documents, instructions and engineering drawings where necessary and liaise with both internal and external stakeholders as required ensuring their requirements are adequately supported, as well as effectively utilise the expertise of fellow senior/specialist engineers for the benefit of the project
- Attend project meetings, design reviews and peer review project documents as required
- Support internal stakeholders where required to drive improvements in processes, quality and cost for production whilst maintaining design intent
- Undertake site inspections and verifications as required
- Ensure all documents and artefacts generated within own sphere of responsibility are completed and managed in accordance with appropriate standard procedures and work instructions including compliance with the required product change management and quality control processes
About YOU
- Civil/Naval Architecture/Aerospace/Mechanical degree qualified and satisfying the requirements for membership of the Institute of Engineers Australia
- Chartered Professional Engineer status (Engineers Australia) or commitment to obtain the same
- Must be eligible to apply for Australian Defence Security Clearance NV1 & NSSIC
- Significant experience as a professional Engineer, with demonstrated experience in structural engineering as a professional Engineer, preferably within Naval/ Maritime Industry
- Demonstrated experience gained in resolving structural related production issues, participation in design reviews, undertaking typical design analyses and implementation of solutions, their integration, validation, qualification testing and supporting production
- Experience with Finite Element Analysis of structures (desirable) specifically, Hyperworks package
- Eligibility to be cleared for International Traffic In Arms (ITAR) regulations
