About the OPPORTUNITY –
We have a great opportunity for a Vulnerability Engineer to join our Hunter Class Frigate Program based either in Adelaide, SA, or Melbourne, VIC reporting to the Vulnerability Engineering Manager.
As the Vulnerability Engineer working within the Hunter Class Frigate Program (HCFP), you will be providing engineering support to the shock and vulnerability design of the platform. You will be a member of a team responsible for reducing the ship's vulnerability to above and underwater threats, with a particular focus on designing to withstand underwater explosions from mines and torpedoes.
You will be required to provide engineering support to the design for shock mitigation and vulnerability reduction of the HCF platform as directed by the Senior Engineer or Vulnerability Engineering Manager, ensuring that the tasks are delivered in line with the programme schedule.
This role will see you:
- Updating survivability modelling tool through engagement with engineering design teams
- Assessment of vulnerability performance by progressive refinement and updating shock and vulnerability model in consultation with Senior Engineer.
- Review and assess supplier's designs, shock qualification proposals and shock results
- Under guidance provide shock/vulnerability engineering design support and assessment to the spatial and structural integration of equipment and systems throughout the platform
- Support the engineering activities associated with procurement including developing the technical requirements documents.
- Collect data and assess effects of equipment and arrangement layout changes on ship vulnerability

About YOU
- Degree qualification in engineering and member of Engineers Australia or equivalent
- Understanding of shock, armour and vulnerability in naval environments
- Knowledge of ship's systems or ability to apply your relevant knowledge to ship design and construction
- Knowledge of the engineering lifecycle and the relationship between activities in different phases of the engineering lifecycle
- Demonstrated good communication skills with ability to interact effectively with colleagues within and outside the immediate team
- Defence security clearance of NV1 or eligibility to obtain
- Eligibility to be cleared for International Traffic In Arms (ITAR) regulations
- Experience in the relevant engineering tools (e.g. Matlab, Excel, Finite Element Analysis) for design analysis and solution development
