In early 2024, the Australian Government selected BAE Systems and ASC Pty Ltd to build Australia's new fleet of nuclear-powered submarines in a significant development in the AUKUS trilateral security pact between the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia.

We are currently seeking dedicated professionals who are passionate about leading defence innovation and working in a highly collaborative environment, within a global team. This program will focus on developing advanced submarine capabilities, integrating cutting-edge technology, and fostering international cooperation among Australia, the UK, and the US. As we enter the crucial mobilisation phase of the contract, your expertise will be vital in delivering strategic plans that can be delivered into actionable outcomes. 

About the OPPORTUNITY

We have an exciting opportunity for a Project Manager to work within our SSN AUKUS team. Reporting to our Head of Business Establishment – SSN AUKUS, this role will be responsible for effectively engaging stakeholders, leading project work scope to achieve the required outcomes within the cost, schedule and quality constraints while managing risk and opportunity. 

This role will be based out of our Flinders Street office in Adelaide and is open to our 9-day fortnight and hybrid work.

Key responsibilities include:

• Planning and delivery of straightforward to complicated projects or a collection of discrete tasks with defined scope and of sufficient scale to require the application of project management disciplines
• Fostering a positive collaborative culture between the key project stakeholders and the project team, including partners
• Ensuring timely activity, integration and efficient use of time and resources to meet requirements
• Ensuring all project requirements and/ or objectives are properly documented in a business case and/or project brief, as appropriate and vigorously pursued
• Establishing appropriate key success indicators and recommend trade-offs between scope, quality, time and cost
• Maintaining the project management baseline
• Identifying project opportunities and risks and developing mitigation strategies for pursuit throughout contract phases. Monitor and report on the status of risks and opportunities
• Ensuring that products and services delivered as part of a project are in accordance with the Product Safety Policy and provide customer satisfaction
• Complete all closure and wrap-up activities upon project completion including lessons learnt
• Managing project resources to meet current and future needs
• Providing input to formal monthly reporting to the Head of Business Establishment on project status and any issues
• Provide mentoring to developing project management talent

About YOU

• Previous experience in a project or business management role
• An ability to interact and influence others
• Well-developed self-management skills and demonstrated ability to work under their own initiative to deliver outputs to time, quality and cost
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills is important to this role
• An ability to interact effectively with colleagues within and outside their immediate team, to implement business requirements
• Participated in contract development or management
• Experience co-ordinating cross-functional teams
• Experience managing sub-contractors, consultants and other suppliers
• Intermediate to advanced MS Office skills, especially in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Eligibility for a Negative Vetting Level 1 Defence security clearance
