About the OPPORTUNITY
We have an exciting opportunity for a Ship Superintendent – Afternoon Shift to work on the Hobart Class Destroyer (DDG) project, based in Osborne, SA and reporting to the Ship Manager.
We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, such as working a 9-day fortnight.
As the Ship Superintendent you will be responsible for the coordination / supervision / de-confliction of day-to-day production tasks on-board the Ship. You will work closely with the Area Managers to ensure activities are executed safely and efficiently on board.
You will be working the afternoon shift which will likely involve a 4pm start time and a 12am finish time.
Key responsibilities include:
- Work with the Area Managers to ensure on-board activities are planned and coordinated in a manner that aligns to site controls, and minimizes risks.
- Monitoring day-to-day activities to ensure they are executed in accordance with the Ship Plan of the Day (SPOD).
- De-confliction of incompatible activities conducted by BAE employees and subcontract labour to ensure a safe and efficient work environment on the Ship.
- Ensure effective communication is maintained with the Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Advisors.
- Work with the SHE Department to ensure good communication flow and rapid response to safety concerns on ship.
- Ensure all work is performed safely, in accordance with legislation and company procedures and policies.
- In the absence of the Ship Manager, verify and authorise safety critical activities on the Ship.
About YOU
- Trade qualification and demonstrated experience in Safety, Health and Environment in a high-risk industrial environment.
- Previous experience in ship construction and maintenance.
- Ability to clearly document work performed in accordance with the Critical Risk Management System.
- Ability to balance conflicting priorities to deliver against customer and business requirements, with appropriate stakeholder management.
- Proven ability to function confidently within a project team and broader business environment.
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal to communicate effectively across multiple levels of the business.
- Eligibility to be cleared for International Traffic In Arms (ITAR) regulations.
