About the OPPORTUNITY

Reporting to the Chief Counsel, the Director of Security for BAE Systems Australia is a unique opportunity for a seasoned executive to lead the Security Function and support BAE Systems' accountable authority (CEO) in achieving the organization's security objectives. This role involves providing strategic, organization-wide oversight across governance, information, personnel, and physical security to protect the company's people, information, environment, and assets.
This key Executive role ensures a consistent and coordinated approach to managing security risks, while complying with customer requirements, legislation, and both BAE Systems' global security policies and Australian-specific regulations.
Key responsibilities include:
Shape the Future of Security: Lead the strategic direction for protective security planning and risk management by developing and implementing comprehensive policies to safeguard the organization's people, assets, and information.
Drive Security Alignment: Design and execute a Security Strategy that aligns with the Australian business strategy, global security goals, and Australian customer requirements, ensuring compliance through operational assurance and regular evaluations.
Measure and Build Security Excellence: Establish key performance indicators for security, identify potential security threats, and continuously enhance security capabilities, resilience and maturity across the organization.
Lead Intelligence & Threat Response: Oversee the intelligence and threat management program, ensuring timely analysis, reporting, and dissemination of threat assessments to key stakeholders within the organization and formulating appropriate actions in response. Also lead the insider risk program to detect and prevent potential threats from within.
Ensure Personnel Security: Manage ongoing assessments of personnel, working closely with authorized vetting agencies to ensure suitability for accessing sensitive information, and meeting all security clearance maintenance requirements.
Build Strong External Relationships: Serve as the primary point of contact on security matters with senior leaders in the company, regulatory authorities, security agencies, and industry bodies, fostering collaborative and trusted partnerships.
Lead and Mentor a Dynamic Team: Lead, motivate, and mentor a diverse team by setting clear objectives, reviewing performance, and driving continuous development and capability growth.
About YOU
Relevant Expertise: Tertiary qualifications in security management or significant experience in managing complex security environments.
Proven Leadership: Extensive experience in a senior leadership role within defence security or security processes and procedures.
Dynamic Leadership Skills: Highly developed leadership, negotiation, and influencing abilities, with the flexibility to apply various leadership styles to inspire performance and engage teams through periods of change.
Integrity and Resilience: A high level of personal integrity, discretion, and initiative, combined with the ability to thrive under pressure while managing complex, multi-layered challenges.
Security Policy Expertise: In-depth understanding of government and industry-standard security policies, procedures, and best practices.
Visionary Leader: A leader with a strong strategic vision who can operationalize plans and drive change by positively engaging and inspiring others.
Security Clearance: Negative Vetting Level 2 security clearance is required.
Compliance Readiness: Eligibility to be cleared for International Traffic in Arms (ITAR) regulations.
