About the OPPORTUNITY
We have a great opportunity for a Safety Engineer to join our Jindalee Operational Radar Network (JORN) Sustainment program based at either Edinburgh, Adelaide or Melbourne CBD locations. Reporting to the Product Safety Manager, you will be part of an inclusive and supportive team, and will join our growing business in an exciting time on a permanent and full time basis. A part time arrangement will also be considered.
We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, including working a 9-day fortnight and hybrid working.
The JORN has been a part of our nation's defence landscape for many decades and comprises three Over-The-Horizon-Radar (OTHR) systems to provide surveillance coverage of our northern border. BAE Systems has been awarded the contract to manage the sustainment and upgrade of this 100 percent Australian solution that is strategically important to Australia's security.
Key responsibilities include:
- Undertake safety engineering (Safety In Design/System Safety/Product Safety) activities including the management of hazards: identification, assessment and mitigation of hazards
- Act as point of contact and provide technical advice on safety engineering activities and safety engineering methodologies performed
- Develop and update safety engineering artefacts including system safety program plans, hazard analysis reports, hazard logs and safety case reports to ensure risks are reduced
- Collaborate effectively with customers, subcontractors and internal stakeholders, maintaining a positive culture within the JORN program
- Support the delivery of safety engineering solutions and provide recommendations for using safety engineering methodology
- Participate in the identification, preparation and review of problem reports, variances (waivers and deviations) and engineering changes to assess potential safety impacts
- Seek and share good practice and knowledge to continuously improve safety engineering practices
About YOU
- Safety engineering experience or engineering/production experience with knowledge of safety engineering
- Knowledge of the engineering systems development lifecycle, and an understanding/awareness of safety engineering standards
- Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to develop effective relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders
- Good problem solving skills and the ability to produce effective technical reports
- Whilst not essential, a relevant engineering degree or a trade qualification, will be highly regarded
