About the OPPORTUNITY
We have an exciting opportunity for a Signatures Engineer to join the Hunter Class Delivery team based at Osborne Naval Shipyard, SA.
Reporting to the Lead Signatures Engineer, the successful applicant will be responsible for providing engineering design guidance and modelling support in the management of ship noise and vibration.
We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, such as working a 9-day fortnight and hybrid working.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting the Signatures Team Lead with developing and maintaining mathematical models as required for HCF signatures modelling and analysis using a combination of Excel, Matlab and in-house modelling software
- Undertake analysis within the Signatures Team with on the job training to identify opportunities for the improvement of ship signature performance
- Liaise with system design teams to implement design modifications
- Undertake supplier equipment analysis to validate ship signatures prediction modelling and mitigate against project risk
- Work with the Engineering Manager and ship Design Authorities to develop modelling techniques and improve modelling accuracy and efficiency
- Report on signatures analysis at Project Design Reviews and other technical meetings as required
- Undertake engineering activities using company IT systems in accordance with the Engineering Framework
- Ensure all documents and artefacts generated within own sphere of responsibility are completed and managed in accordance with delivery schedule
- Seek and share good practice and knowledge to continuously improve own practices.
About YOU
- Relevant Engineering/Naval Architecture/Mathematics/Physics degree qualification and eligibility for membership with the Institute of Engineers Australia.
- Experience in any of the following areas is desirable:
- Commercial or Defence shipbuilding;
- Mechanical design engineering;
- Acoustics engineering;
- Noise & Vibration engineering;
- Mathematical modelling;
- FEA / FEM / Matlab modelling
- Ability to work in multi-disciplinary engineering design teams across the UK and Australia
- Proven problem solving and analytical skills and the confidence to seek advice when unsure of an approach or technology.
- Current NV1 defence security clearance or eligibility to obtain.
