About the OPPORTUNITY
We have an exciting opportunity for a Facilities Mechanical Engineer to join our Hunter Class line of business based at Osborne Naval Shipyard-SA, reporting to the Shipyard Capability Manager.
We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, such as working a 9-day fortnight and hybrid working.
As the Facilities Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering compliant, safe, and cost-effective mechanical engineering solutions while adhering to industry approved standards and project timelines. You will oversee the development and modification of mechanical equipment, systems, structures, and materials while ensuring seamless technical collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. Managing and developing the technical team, you will provide engineering expertise and support for equipment and system modifications. Additionally, you will be accountable for the preparation, integrity, and delivery of mechanical engineering outputs and services to both internal and external customers.
Key responsibilities include:
- Solve complex engineering challenges by leveraging deep mechanical engineering knowledge and best practices.
- Develop optimized mechanical systems, equipment, and solutions, presenting designs in reviews and refining based on feedback.
- Oversee manufacturing, integration, and validation processes, ensuring mechanical systems meet performance requirements.
- Conduct qualification activities, analyse results, and ensure designs comply with safety, regulatory, and legislative standards.
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and technical oversight to engineers, ensuring continuous professional development.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to address requirements, resolve issues, and incorporate feedback into infrastructure designs.
- Identify, develop, and promote new technologies and best practices to enhance engineering processes and technical capabilities.
- Ensure engineering documents, designs, and artefacts meet quality control processes, risk management protocols, and compliance standards.
- Make informed engineering decisions within delegated authority and contribute to planning, safety, and risk management initiatives.
About YOU
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Mechatronic, or Aeronautical Engineering.
- Eligibility for Membership with the Institute of Engineers Australia (IEAust).
- Technical expertise in mechanical design, including developing designs, participating in design reviews, conducting analyses, and implementing solutions.
- Integration and validation experience with system testing, qualification, and verification processes.
- Industry background in shipbuilding, construction, or related engineering sectors.
