About the OPPORTUNITY
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Project Manager to join our Hunter Class Delivery team based at Osborne Naval Shipyard, South Australia.
Reporting to the Head of Program Integration, this role will effectively lead and engage stakeholders, including the project team and lead sub-contractors / consultants to achieve the required customer and company outcomes for complicated to complex projects.
In the conduct of assigned duties, the Senior Project Manager must maintain the goodwill of the customer, industry partners, BAE Systems Australia management and provide effective leadership to the project team. This role has a focus on team leadership and project strategy, underpinned by excellence in project delivery. In addition to delivery, the role will focus on how the complex project scope will support business, program and portfolio strategy. The role will be responsible for mentoring and coaching lower grade levels in project management delivery and strategic alignment.
We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, such as working a 9-day fortnight and hybrid working.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leadership and delivery of predominately complex projects
- Execution of strategic projects
- Develop strategic relationships with industry partners and BAE Systems international entities
- Provide leadership and guidance to the project team, which is aligned to strategic business objectives
- Foster a positive and collaborative culture between the key project stakeholders and the project team, including the customer, industry partners, sub-contractors and suppliers
- Build and maintain a trusted relationship with the customer by being a focal point for customer contact
- Lead the project team to ensure timely activity, integration and efficient use of time and resources to meet requirements
- Ensure all project requirements and/ or objectives are properly documented in a business case and/ or project brief, as appropriate and vigorously pursued
- Establish appropriate key success indicators (KSI's) and recommend trade-offs between scope, quality, time and cost. Monitor relevance of KSI's and influence enhancements where valuable
- Ensure that products and services delivered as part of a project are in accordance with the Product Safety Policy and provide customer satisfaction
- Develop an appropriate risk management culture, which continuously mitigates known risk areas. Ensure risk position, and business impacts, are communicated outside of the project team
- Provide direction to, and motivate, the broader (matrix) project team
- Identify and address training and development needs for the project team
- Complete all closure and wrap-up activities upon project completion including lessons learnt
- Provide mentoring to developing Project Managers
About YOU
- Significant experience in Project Management.
- Ability to problem solve and work autonomously to deliver outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to articulate strategy/purpose and link to objectives and project deliverables.
- Proven ability to negotiate with and influence internal and / or external stakeholders in a way which generates project / program benefit whilst maintaining key relationships.
- Proven ability to think innovatively and to plan strategically.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to use and adapt written and verbal communication skills to suit a variety of different audiences.
- Ability to partner with and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to obtain the necessary deliverables.
- Defence security clearance or eligibility to obtain.
- Eligibility to be cleared for International Traffic In Arms (ITAR) regulations.
