About the OPPORTUNITY
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Test practice Manager to join our Central Function, the role can be worked from Adelaide, Melbourne or Sydney, reporting to the Change Adoption Manager. We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, such as working a 9-day fortnight and hybrid working.
The role is responsible for for leading the planning, coordination, and execution of testing activities for complex and high-impact solutions, ensuring alignment with business outcomes, technical requirements, and operational readiness. This role applies testing expertise to define and implement test strategies, manage risk-based test execution, and oversee defect resolution to ensure high-quality delivery.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead and manage test and resource planning, execution, and delivery of large scale or complex initiatives, providing expertise and strategic vision to embed best practice testing processes to ensure quality assurance of business objectives
- Facilitate investigations to develop testing strategies that mitigate system outage risks, analyse complex requirements to design comprehensive testing strategies and scripts, and identify automation opportunities to optimise test execution and enhance delivery efficiency
- Lead all aspects of test management, including defining test plans, ensuring adherence to organisational test frameworks, providing guidance to leadership on risks and resource allocation, managing timely completion of testing activities, and the hands-on execution of end-to-end testing and defect management
- Ensure testing activities comply with industry standards, governance, and security guidelines, while identifying and managing test-related risks, promoting a culture of quality and continuous improvement, evaluating automation feasibility, and identifying opportunities to enhance test processes
- Design, develop, and manage the delivery of detailed test reports to provide visibility of test outcomes, ensuring timely reporting and documentation of test defects to support informed release decisions and maintain quality assurance across deliverables
- Uphold the organisational test framework to drive performance improvement and customer satisfaction, ensuring consistent application of quality standards, driving compliance with documented standards, and advising on appropriate test tools to balance efficiency, maintainability, cost, and risk acceptance
- Establish collaborative relationships with stakeholders, customers, and colleagues to provide clarification and advice on test lifecycle activities, acting as a trusted advisor to ensure stakeholder alignment and successful test outcomes
- Oversee test resource allocation and activities across testing initiatives, ensuring teams have the necessary tools and capabilities while managing compliance with test plans to achieve timely completion of functional, integration, and other testing activities through appropriate test environments
- Maintain expertise in emerging test management ideologies and technologies, contributing to the development of the Test capability area by encouraging knowledge sharing, driving innovation, and delivering learning materials to enhance capability uplift and streamline testing processes across the organisation
About YOU
- Proven experience and record of achievement in test management across diverse initiatives (e.g., applications, products, enterprise systems) in large, complex shared services environments
- Extensive experience in planning, coordinating, and executing testing activities for large-scale programs
- Demonstrated ability to manage high-performing teams, influence stakeholders, and build testing capabilities
- Ability to demonstrate manual and automation testing experience is considered desirable
- Extensive experience in managing a test framework in a shared services environment, including relevant qualifications or the equivalent experience
Experience in automation and manual testing practices, tools, and performance testing methodologies, including experience with open-source frameworks, orchestration tools, and DevOps pipelines
