About the OPPORTUNITY –
We have a great opportunity for a Safety Engineer to join our Hunter Class Frigate Program. This role will be reporting to the Product Safety Manager.
You will be working to meet corporate governance, legal and customer requirements from a System Safety perspective. Being a safety practitioner, with established experience in safety, this role will see you operating in a small team where you will develop your system domain knowledge. This role will see you reviewing documentation/information provided by suppliers to ensure that all safety aspects have been covered and meet all requirements.
This role will see you:
- Coordinate system safety activities within the assigned projects. Communicate activities internal and external to the projects to provide visibility within each project of current hazards, mitigation strategies and review results
- Prepare internal and external reports on each Project's system safety to support project reviews and System Safety Working Groups
- Lead the determination of safety requirements affecting material and component suppliers and vendors; and
- Recommend approval or rejection of vendor or suppliers safety documentation
- Maintain each Project's Hazard Log and supporting documentation
- Maintain currency of knowledge in best practices in safety engineering within BAE Systems, Australia, Defence and Industry

About YOU
- Bachelor's degree in engineering is desirable but not essential
- Experience undertaking safety engineering programs based on standards such as MIL-STD-882
- Demonstrated experience executing safety programs in a large organisation or program as a Safety Engineer
- Experience creating safety cases and hazard logs
- The ability to demonstrate initiative and be self-motivated
- Excellent communication skills, as you will be liaising both verbally and in writing to various stakeholder groups
- Background and experience in a Defence or Maritime setting will be advantageous but not mandatory
- A current NV1 Clearance or eligibility to obtain
- Eligibility to be cleared for International Traffic in Arms (ITAR) regulations
