About the OPPORTUNITY
We have an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Team Lead to join our Maritime Sustainment Program based at Garden Island NSW, reporting to the Engineering Manager
We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, such as working a 9-day fortnight and hybrid working.
You will be responsible for leading a team of electrical engineering professionals that facilitate designs of a variety of capability upgrades and support maintenance activities on the Hobart Class Destroyer (DDG) The position involves exercise of engineering judgement within broad and often undefined parameters. You will ensure that design authorisations are established and maintained.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop designs relative to requirements ensuring alignment to customer needs
- Facilitate design documentation and perform critical reviews for certification of design
- Lead the engineering team in the realisation of the engineering solution while optimising cost and schedule for the allocated work package
- Review and approve technical aspects of Estimates to Completion (ETCs), i.e. the work plan, estimating inputs, methodology and estimating outputs
- Development of appropriate metrics to ensure the deliverables are on track
- Develop and implement training plans for your team and provide coaching and mentoring to both junior and experienced engineers
- Review technical feasibility of proposed solutions to engineering problems
- Personally assist in solving particularly difficult technical problems
About YOU
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering discipline with demonstrated experience to meet professional accreditation
- Ability to represent BAE SYSTEMS in a professional and ethical manner through demonstrated professional integrity, advanced level of technical knowledge, objectivity, acceptance of responsibility and maturity of judgement
- Demonstrated Team Leadership experience
- Critical design review experience
- Knowledge of cost management, schedule management and risk assessments or experience that utilises project management capability
- Understanding and experience in effective use of Engineering process, lifecycles, methods, tools and infrastructure
- Demonstrated experience of 'Best Practice' Engineering processes, methods and tools
- Ability to train and mentor engineers through good team building skills
- Exemplary communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with employees and stakeholders at all levels
