About the OPPORTUNITY
We have an exciting opportunity for a Detail Design Technical Specialist to join our Hunter Class Frigate program based at Melbourne CBD office.
As a Detail Design Technical Specialist, you will provide deep technical expertise and hands-on support to our Australian Detail Design delivery team. Working alongside the Design Manager and the team of Discipline Lead you will focus on technical quality, capability uplift, process improvement, and proactive intervention based on quality performance data.
Key responsibilities include:
- Act as a technical specialist providing hands-on “elbow support” to designers in the resolution of complex, recurring, or high-risk technical issues
- Design and deliver formal technical training, coaching, and capability uplift activities to address skill gaps and meet future requirements
- Perform analysis of quality, non-conformances and production query data to identify systemic technical and process-related issues
- Lead structured root cause analysis activities and develop, trial, and implement effective technical and process interventions to improve quality outcomes
- Develop, document, and maintain technical processes, standards, methods, and tools
- Provide specialist technical advice and guidance within Detail Design as well as the programme more broadly on spatial integration or production issues
- Facilitate technical workshops, lessons learned sessions, and knowledge-sharing forums to embed best practice and improve consistency of technical output
- Review technical outputs as part of defined quality interventions to assess compliance with standards, specifications, and process requirements
About YOU
- Diploma of Engineering (Technical) or equivalent industry experience
- Significant experience working as a Designer or Draftsperson within the Shipbuilding / Maritime industry
- Experience in designing and delivering formal technical training and capability uplift activities
- Experience conducting technical reviews, processes confirmation and using quality and performance data to identify systemic issues and improvement opportunities
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication skills
