We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Naval Architect within the ANZAC class frigate sustainment program. This role can be based in Perth, Adelaide or Melbourne.

Your new role:
The Naval Architect is accountable for the design and development of Naval Architecture aspects of vessel design, in accordance with the contractual and Company requirements in order to achieve the required business performance. This involves the design, development and implementation of Naval Architecture specific functional and performance characteristics into a vessel design. Responsibility encompasses testing and integration of Naval Architecture related equipment/characteristics, and managing the Naval Architecture tasks against technical, schedule and cost goals.
In particular, this role will see you:
As a member of the engineering team, the Naval Architect is required to contribute to the completion of team tasks and grow own knowledge and experience.
- Develop design solutions for the Naval Architecture specific aspects for new and emerging projects,
- Undertake Naval Architectural design analysis to determine the strengths and weaknesses of a number of candidate solutions,
- Undertake review of proposed design solutions and identify potential design changes,
- Support the Naval Architecture related aspects of equipment manufacture to ensure its realisation and participate in production readiness reviews,
- Support the Naval Architecture whole ship integration and validation to ensure that the design meets its requirements,
- Support Naval Architecture related qualification activities to ensure that the vessel / product meets all requirements including safety and regulatory requirements,
- Utilise appropriate design capture and analysis tools effectively to enable design tasks to be completed in the appropriate timeframe,
- Utilise appropriate tools / methods to enable test, integration and verification tasks to be completed in the appropriate time frame,
- Ensure all documents and artefacts generated within own sphere of responsibility are completed and managed in accordance with appropriate standard procedures and work instructions, including compliance with the required product change management
and quality control processes.
About you:
As an ideal applicant for this opportunity, you will have;
- Naval Architecture degree qualified and satisfying the requirements for membership of the Institute of Engineers Australia or the Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA).
- Has experience in developing simple Naval Architecture designs, participation in design reviews, undertaking typical design analyses and implementation of solutions, their integration, validation and qualification testing.
- Some experience in the following technologies, design analysis techniques, development tools:
- Design synthesis (Naval Architecture)
- Ship design (concept through to detailed design)
- Ship construction
- Ship stability (analysis and inclining)
- Structural analysis (global)
- Weight and moment control
- Platform system integration
- Resistance and propulsion
- Seakeeping
- Maneuvering analysis
- Classification and Statutory rules and regulations
- Specification and requirements development
- Launching calculations
- Docking calculations
- Sea trials analysis

Clearances:
As Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants must be Australian citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain appropriate clearance.
