We currently have an exciting opportunity as a Project Engineering Manager within our Strategic Surveillance business based in Edinburgh Parks, SA.
The TACMOR project will manufacture, integrate, install and set to work, an Australian designed surveillance system, into the Palau archipelago. This is a very exciting and unique project that represents a pivotal career opportunity for someone who has substantial leadership experience in delivering complex systems.
The TACMOR Project Engineering Manager (PEM) will define the overall technical objectives of the project, provide technical leadership to the Engineering Team to deliver the technical objectives within the project budget and schedule, co-ordinate all activities associated with BAE Systems engineering governance (including tailoring of process as applicable to the project), and ensure suitability of all deliverables produced within the Engineering Team prior to delivery.

Your new role:
The primary engineering management activities are:
Engineering Governance:
- Ensure that the engineering outputs (i.e. products and services) delivered are in accordance with the Company product safety policy.
- Apply the standard Company and Program Engineering practices and tools into the TACMOR project
- as appropriate.
- Identify and contribute process improvements and recommendations.
- Support the project relevant Lifecycle Management Design Reviews (as applicable).
- Monitor and ensure compliance with the Program Engineering Management Plan.
- Responsible for ensuring that Product Security requirements are analysed and defined and that all
- delivered Products meet applicable Product Security requirements.
- Responsible for ensuring that delivered Products are accredited to relevant standards where
- applicable / required.
Project Delivery:
- Provide engineering support to the PM around planning, scheduling and decision making.
- Develop and communicate the strategies for design, qualification, acceptance and support of the
- engineering solutions.
- Management of the Customer relationship from a technical and engineering perspective.
- Ownership and management of delivery for Project System Reviews (where applicable).
- Ensure that the engineering outputs (i.e. products and services) are developed and delivered in
- accordance with the TACMOR projects requirements (i.e. quality, cost and schedule).
- Lead the Engineering Team in the development and delivery of the TACMOR system.
- Provide clear project resource capacity and capability needs to the Program Engineering Manager.
- Raise issues (capacity, capability and quality) to the Program Engineering Manager for resolution as
- appropriate.
- Configuration and data management of all engineering activities in accordance with the authorised change management processes.
- Support project opportunities and contract changes as appropriate.
- Closure of the project engineering activities.
Project Assurance:
- Management of project engineering quality assurance activities;
- Manage and report on applicable project technical metrics to the Project Manager and relevant stakeholders.
Technical Risk:
- Ensure project technical risks and issues are identified, reviewed, managed and burnt down.
Development of subordinates:
- Support and assist with career growth and development for members of the broader program engineering community.
Other:
- Identification and communication of Business Development opportunities.
- Resolve differences in views and opinions in requirements, design, development and test activities between various stakeholders. Issues that cannot be resolved are raised to the Program Engineering Manager for resolution.
- Undertake out-of-standard-hours activity from time to time to accommodate the cyclic, peak & trough nature of workload in the business, for example, travelling for business.
About you:
As an applicant for this opportunity, you'll have:
- Sound experience in engineering production in a defence or a related industry
- Significant leadership experience in the project engineering space
- Strong stakeholder and communication engagement
- Defence security clearance required
- Eligibility to be cleared for International Traffic In Arms (ITAR) regulations
