Engineers to support Hawk military aircraft as part of BAE Systems design team
Our Aerospace business has established a large engineering team that needs to continue its growth. The team unites our technical experts who work across different states, sites, countries and projects, but collectively are deeply committed to delivering and enhancing leading technologies in operation at customer sites with a focus on operations based at Williamtown (NSW) and Pearce (WA).
The engineering activities include tasks in specific disciplines that are needed to support in service operational aircraft, integration of new equipment functionality and design solutions of new aerospace technology. We are seeking expressions of interest for engineers in the following specific disciplines:
- Aircraft Structures
- Avionics & Electrical
- Software
- Systems (Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical or Software)
As an engineer in our Aerospace business you will need to:
- Apply your skills and experience to generate new and modify existing designs
- Share knowledge and industry lessons learnt to the existing team
- Confidently work in a team environment to support and explore new ideas
- Collaborate, leveraging experience from others and consider multiple perspectives
- Have a passion for supporting the air force and experience in supporting end users
- Hold or obtain a Baseline Australian Defence Clearance

About the Opportunities
The engineering roles will form part of the BAE Systems Aerospace engineering capability and address demands and new contracts supporting design activities for current and future military aircraft. These operational and future platforms include Hawk, Joint Strike Fighter F-35 and future platforms. The design team for our Aerospace business is primarily based at Williamtown however working from other BAE Systems sites and remote locations will be considered.
The design activities include assessment and integration of new capability to existing designs, generation of new design solutions and facilitating integration and testing of aircraft subsystems. Expertise will be gained in the majority of product phases including requirements, design, integration, testing, certification and operational support.
Aircraft Structural Engineer
- Work in our engineering team to develop design changes and structural design decisions regarding military airframes
- Review, design, development and verification of structural related design artefacts (e.g. drawings, structural analysis and modelling)
- Assist in the monitoring, assessment and disposition of matters that impact airframe structural integrity (ASI) such as Fatigue and Environmental damage.
- Ensure your work complies with relevant standards
- Have experience in structural / mechanical supplier interactions and engagement
As an ideal Aircraft Structural candidate, you'll have:
- 5-15yrs in aircraft structural design and exposure to most lifecycle phases (essential)
- Demonstrated airframe design experience including generation and review of design documents, analysis and fatigue/environment damage assessments (essential)
- An appreciation of ASI concepts and modelling.
- Experience in structural design tools (e.g. NASTRAN, PATRAN, Creo)
- Broad knowledge of basic military aircraft airframe and structural systems
- Experience with airworthiness (civil/military) regulations and compliance.
- A Bachelor of Engineering degree or equivalent in Mechanical, Aerospace or Aeronautical.
Avionics / Electrical Engineer
- Work in our engineering team to define, develop and integrate electrical systems
- Develop electrical related solutions, circuit analysis, design and interfaces of avionic and related systems
- Support the acquisition of new, modified or COTS avionics/electrical systems
- Ensure your work complies with avionics/electrical military standards and regulations
- Develop and logically integrate electrical subsystems to minimize technical product risks
- Have experience in avionics/electrical supplier interactions and engagement
As an ideal Avionic / Electrical candidate, you'll have:
- 5-15yrs in electrical / avionic design and exposure to most lifecycle phases (essential)
- Demonstrated electrical design experience including generation and review of electrical/avionic design documents, drawings and schematics (essential)
- Experience in electrical design tools and relevant CAD programs (e.g. PTC Creo, AutoCAD Electrical)
- Broad knowledge of basic military aircraft electrical systems
- A general awareness of airworthiness (civil/military) regulations
- A Bachelor of Engineering degree or equivalent in Electronic, Electrical, or Mechatronics.
Software Engineer
- Work in our agile team environment to develop software systems
- Develop software for on-board and off-board aircraft systems
- Support the acquisition of new, modified and COTS software systems
- Contribute to requirement capture and supporting design and test documents
- Participate in software testing of systems both within the team and at customer sites
- Ensure your work complies with software military standards and regulations
- Develop and logically integrate software subsystems to minimize technical product risks
As an ideal software candidate, you'll have:
- 5-15yrs in software design and exposure to most lifecycle phases (essential)
- Demonstrated software experience in C, C++, C#, Ada (essential)
- Experience in Python, JavaScript, Microsoft SQL databases, Unity/Unreal
- Exposure or experience in an Aerospace software environment
- A general awareness of airworthiness (civil/military) regulations
- A Bachelor of Engineering degree or equivalent in Software, Computer, Computer Science or Information Technology.
Systems Engineer
- Work in our engineering team to develop and manage system and subsystem requirements, product breakdown structure, design, test and certification documentation
- Apply the Systems Engineering approach ensuring products delivered meet their requirements and are fit for purpose through all product life cycle stages
- Contribute to high level design and analysis to define and characterise subsystems
- Develop work statements and technically manage internal agencies and external suppliers
- Ensure your work complies with systems engineering standards and regulations
- Develop and support system integration and testing to minimize technical product risks
- Contribute to bids and up front customer needs analysis and capture
As an ideal Systems Engineer candidate, you'll have:
- 5-15yrs in systems engineering application and customer engagement (essential)
- Experience in systems engineering of products and exposure to most lifecycle phases (essential)
- Demonstrated systems thinking application and experience including requirements management, facilitating integration, test & certification execution (essential)
- Experience in Systems Engineering tools (e.g. DOORS, MBSE software)
- Broad knowledge of basic military aircraft / aerospace systems
- Experience with airworthiness (civil/military) regulations and compliance.
- A Bachelor of Engineering degree or equivalent in Aerospace, Aeronautical, Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Computer or Software AND a Systems Engineering related qualification or experience.
