About the OPPORTUNITY
BAE Systems Maritime Australia (formerly known as ASC Shipbuilding), has been contracted to design and deliver nine of the world's most advanced anti-submarine warfare frigates to the Royal Australian Navy. The Hunter Class Frigate Program will create and sustain more than 5,000 jobs across BAE Systems and the wider Australian defence supply chain over the life of the program.
An opportunity now exists for a seasoned senior role as an Engineering Manager - Structures System Design to demonstrate their technical expertise and make a valuable contribution within our Maritime business on the Hunter Class Frigate Program.
This rare position will be offered on a permanent and full time basis and will be based in Osborne Naval Shipyard, South Australia.
We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, such as working a 9-day fortnight and/ or hybrid working.
You will be responsible for the oversight of all engineering activities within the Structural Engineering Team. Specifically, this will include the planning and establishment of Programme level engineering infrastructure and resourcing and support the Programme Manager with high level customer management and stakeholder engagement.
In addition, the Engineering Manager - Structures System Design will participate in the review and monitoring of technical aspects of active projects and facilitate the rectification of critical and cross program issues
Key responsibilities include:
- Manage appropriate overall engineering capability needed to deliver the engineering products and services required to achieve design completion of the Hunter Class Frigate.
- In conjunction with direct report Engineering Managers, validate and approve the technical deliverables generated within the Hunter Class Frigate Structural Design team.
- Oversee the technical aspects of major procurement activities within area of responsibility for the Hunter Class Frigate Program.
- Guide development and execution of Programme plans and specific development activities associated with development of Programme products ensuring they are compliant to the Operational Framework and compliant to the safety and security policies
- In conjunction with direct report Engineering Managers, establish Strategic Resource Plans to provide the Engineering capability to deliver engineering solutions both now and into the future.
- Undertake detailed planning and estimating to establish the Work Breakdown Structure, Project Schedule, earned value measurement system, and staffing profile for significant program changes or future programs
- Support and/or execute Design Reviews and Technical Bid Reviews
About YOU
- Bachelor's of Engineering degree (Structural/Mechanical/Mechatronic/Civil/Aerospace)
- Chartered Professional Engineer status required
- Demonstrated prior Engineering Management knowledge and experience with formal Engineering experience
- Proven track record in senior manager roles
- Working knowledge of Defence project environments (Highly Desirable)
- Demonstrated experience in Team Leadership and Team Management of a mid-large sized project
- NV1 clearance or eligibility required
