About the OPPORTUNITY
We have a new opportunity for an Aviation Safety/Airworthiness Engineer to join our Aerospace business on the Hawk Lead-in Fighter (LIF) aircraft program. This key position will report to the Airworthiness Manager, be offered on a permanent full time basis, and will be situated in either Williamtown (Newcastle), New South Wales or Pearce RAAF Base in Bullsbrook, Perth.
The Hawk Lead-In Fighter is the world's most successful advanced military jet trainer aircraft built on more than 35 years of fast jet training experience. More than 1,000 aircrafts have operated across 18 countries, preparing more than 20,000 pilots for life in a fast-jet cockpit. In 2022, BAE Systems Australia welcomed a $1.5 billion Hawk Lead-In Fighter contract extension that will continue to train Australia's frontline fighter pilots through to 2031.
Key responsibilities include:
- Collaborate with the airworthiness team to investigate aircraft airworthiness/safety engineering technical queries/issues and provide recommendations and resolutions
- Collaborate effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders, maintaining a positive culture within the HAWK Hawk Lead-in Fighter (LIF) aircraft enterprise
- Prepare special technical instructions and/or other actions in response to airworthiness/safety engineering technical information reviews
- Contribute to airworthiness system safety plans and processes, along with the identification and assessment of hazards
- Act as a point of contact for airworthiness/safety engineering related matters and provide technical leadership and guidance on activities
- Undertake airworthiness engineering activities and judgements in accordance with program processes and Defence Aviation Safety Regulations to meet the agreed operational needs of the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF)
- Seek and share good practice and knowledge to continuously improve airworthiness engineering practices
- Conduct airworthiness/safety engineering technical information reviews, determine applicability, define any necessary actions and manage implementations
About YOU
- Extensive aviation engineering, or airworthiness engineering or aviation systems safety experience
- A university degree level engineering qualification in an appropriate discipline
- Self-motivation, well organised, and the ability to collaborate and communicate well with a variety of stakeholders
- Good technical writing skills and the ability to produce effective technical reports
- Experience/knowledge of Aviation safety regulations, Defence Aviation Safety Authority (DASA) or Civil Aviation Regulations (CASA/EASA), will be highly regarded
