About the OPPORTUNITY
We have an exciting new opportunity for a Firmware Engineer to join our Surveillance and Communications business unit based in Adelaide's defence precinct Edinburgh Parks, SA where we deliver key programs related radar networks, high-frequency surveillance and other capabilities for our customers.
Reporting to the Hardware Development Lead, you will be integrating into a small hardware team, to develop and maintain hardware supporting mission critical defence radar systems in accordance with contractual and Company requirements. The primary function of this role is to support current product FPGA firmware, and next generation hardware development activities.
The successful candidate will need to relocate to Adelaide, SA.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and develop new VHDL (Virtual Hardware Description Language) firmware
- Maintain current product line, and engineering support for hardware and firmware
- Working collaboratively within a team including mentoring junior engineers
- Undertake product level testing and hardware integration activities
- Collaborate with various engineering disciplines including software, systems, ILS and quality
- Produce detailed design and test documentation and procedures to meet contractual project requirements
About YOU
- A university degree level qualification in an appropriate discipline
- Knowledge and understanding of the engineering development lifecycle
- Defence security clearance or eligibility to obtain
- Eligibility to be cleared for International Traffic In Arms (ITAR) regulations
- Experience in Intel FPGA VHDL firmware development cycles
- 3 plus years of experience with Modelsim/ Questasim Advanced Simulator and TCL scripting
- Hardware level debugging including tools such as SignalTap
- Familiarisation with TCP/IP and network protocols
- Experience with the below would be highly regarded
- Radar principles
- Digital Signal Processing, MATLAB design, VHDL implementation
- RF / Analog circuit design
- Schematic capture and PCB design using tools such as Altium Designer
- High speed, controlled impedance, multilayer PCB layout, designing for MIL-STD-461
- Hardware simulation tools such as LTspice and Genesys
