About the OPPORTUNITY
We have a new opportunity for a Senior Engineer – Ship Structural Systems to join our Hunter Class Line of Business based at Melbourne.
We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, such as working a 9-day fortnight and hybrid working.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager - Structures, you will be responsible for providing structural engineering services that are accurate, safe, on time, to budget, and to approved standards for the development or modification of structural equipment, systems and/ or materials.
This role also requires a technical interface with the broader engineering team, production, sustainment and procurement personnel and external suppliers.
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide an interface between project team and management and customer representatives
- Perform and review of main hull scantling calculations of Naval Platforms in accordance with ship rules
- Develop hull scantling calculation capability within the team
- Review production drawings and 3D ship models to comply with ship rules
- Perform unit reviews and compartment reviews of platforms to comply with ship rules, IACS and BAE Systems policies
- Manage structural tasks of assigned projects in accordance with budget, schedule and priority
- Liase with the team in UK for transfer of technology as well as for planning of combined delivery of structural assignments
- Ensure the products are production friendly and incorporate post design changes as required from production department or client
- Undertake site inspections and verifications as required
- Ensure all documents and artefacts generated within own sphere of responsibility are completed and managed in accordance with appropriate standard procedures and work instructions including compliance with the required product change management and quality control processes
About YOU
- Naval Architecture degree / masters qualified and satisfying the requirements for membership of Engineers Australia
- Chartered Professional Engineer status (Engineers Australia) or commitment to obtain the same
- 5+ years in Naval structural designs with demonstrated skills in scantling design of Naval Platforms
- Demonstrated experience gained in developing structural design, structural design, participation in design reviews, undertaking typical design analyses and implementation of solutions, their integration, validation, qualification testing and supporting production
- Experience with Finite Element Analysis of structures specifically, Hyperworks package (desirable)
